Paintings from 2026

Starting off 2026 with a painting of Morant's Curve in the Rockies, with a steam loco winding next to the Bow River.

It was a lot of fun to paint & hopefully has whet my appetite to paint more this year. I never painted much in 2025. Below are some WIP photos from this project:

I tried painting clouds again. Why, I don't know, because I'm never happy with them. I also experimented with applying gesso with a pallet knife and making textures in the mountains.

Just about finished except for a steamer! And the clouds are gone!!!

Next for 2026 was Jones Falls near Owen Sound. I like how this turned out, the hardest thing to paint was the bush in the foreground. Took me a little longer to get it right.

Finished Feb 27th

Below are some WIP photos from this project:

Feb 12th- blocking it in

Feb 20th, adding texture to the rocks

Feb 26, the bush just looked too dense

Reference photo

Another fantastic waterfall from Manitoulin Island, Bridle Veil Falls, reference photo shown below, then some WIP photos

The beginning, trying to get the composition laid out

About 1/2 done. The foliage is looking good, and getting ready to work on the water & the falls

Finished to my liking, the falls aren't too dense, and the water turned out the way I wanted, with the underwater rocks appearing to be under the surface

Next up will be High Falls near Sudbury on the Onaping River. This is the reference photo that I'll be working from

Below is what the above looks like without any trees

Below is an example of what I do with the stretched canvas, showing painting all the exposed outer & back canvas, and applying a hanging wire. This way, no frame is needed.
